Beth Haim ('House
of life') is the Portuguese-Jewish cemetery in Ouderkerk aan de
Amstel. The cemetery covers 4 hectares and was started in 1614. In
use for nearly 400 years, this cemetery comprising approximately
28,000 graves remains in its original state. The entrance is next
to the Vega House, the custodian's residence (1883) along the
Kerkstraat. The cemetery is open to the public, and the custodian
Dennis Ouderdorp provides guided tours on request.
